Acupuncture Acupcture is a component of traditional Chinese medicine that originated in China over 5,000 years ago. It is based on the belief that living beings have a vital energy, called "Qi", that circulates through meridians or channels pathways in, and throughout the body. As Qi energy is part of blood also, it will be found anywhere that blood flows. Each meridian is associated with a different organ system. An imbalance in the flow of Qi such as by way of a deficiency or an excess, is how disease begins. A blockage or stagnation of Qi from an injury or trauma will cause there to be pain, hinder the healing of the injury, and prolong the pain. The intent of acupuncture therapy is to promote health and alleviate pain and suffering. The method by which this is accomplished, though it may seem strange and mysterious to many, has been time tested over thousands of years and continues to be validated today. Acupuncturists insert needles into specified points along meridian lines on the body to influence and restore balance to the flow of qi and blood, relieving pain, and allowing the healing process to take place. There are over 1,000 acupuncture points on the body. Acupuncture stimulates the microcirculation of blood to injuries, which is required for wound and injury healing. Pain is relieved by removing the blockage or stagnation of Qi and blood to allow for a free flow and nomalization. Acupuncture assists in reducing swelling and inflammation, and speeding the bodies natural healing process. Dr. MAC is trained in and uses both Traitional and Classical acupuncture. |
